The CANDLE project has the following four narratives. Do you find yourself aligned with one or more of them?
Anna, the Researcher
Anna is an oncology researcher studying rare forms of breast cancer. She knows valuable datasets exist across Europe, but doesn’t know where to find them or who to contact. She visits CANDLE, identifies relevant datasets, and learns how to request access. Her research progresses faster because she spends less time searching and more time doing science.
David, the Data Holder
David works at a university hospital. His team has spent years collecting high-quality cancer data, but researchers often don’t know the dataset exists. Through the National Cancer Data Node, David publishes metadata, not the sensitive data itself.
Sofia, the Patient
Sofia has completed cancer treatment. She hopes future patients will benefit from research. She learns that CANDLE does not make personal health data public. Instead, it helps researchers safely discover where data exists while respecting privacy, governance and national regulations. Better collaboration means faster discoveries that may improve future care.
Maria, the National Cancer Data Node Representative
Maria has been asked to coordinate cancer data activities in her country. Hospitals, registries, universities, biobanks, etc., all hold valuable information, but they work independently. The National Cancer Data Node brings these organisations together. It provides common standards, connects them with Europe, and makes national cancer data easier to discover.
